Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff.

Q: What can I bring to the meet?

A: Bring the following:

lawn chairs/umbrella/poncho/bug spray /suntan lotion/towels/warm dry clothes for swimmers/permanent marker to write events on your swimmers hand/cash or venmo for concessions

Q: When is warm up?

A: Home meets - 5:00pm;  Away meets - 5:25 pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so your swimmer is ready to get in the pool on time.

Q: When do I do my volunteer position?

A: The shifts work approximately as follows:

  • Set-Up Volunteers:  3:30 PM
  • Concession Volunteers: 5:00 PM (Home meets only).
  • Timers and Back up Timers: 5:30 PM (need to be present for meeting with Head Official at both home and away meets).
  • BullPen and Staging Volunteers: 5:45 PM (needs to start setting up swimmers for the first event to start right at 6 PM).
  • All other first shift volunteers should report to the pool by 5:45PM.
  • Second shift Volunteers: Please listen to announcement from the PA system as to when to report to your job.

Q: What if I cannot make a meet?

A: Please be sure to RSVP on the website, especially if your swimmer cannot attend. A notice of 5 days is best so we do not enter your child into a meet they cannot attend. If we do not have ample notice, another child may miss an opportunity to swim in that slot.

You are also responsible for finding a replacement for any volunteer duties you will miss. Please be prepared to tell us who your replacement is. You can contact Shannon Dantzer, volunteer coordinator, with any questions.

Q: What if it is raining or there is a prediction of a storm?

A: Go to all meets, even in inclement weather! Often meets are simply delayed rather than cancelled! Please stay in an area (ex: your car) where you can be advised on what to do.

Do not assume a meet is cancelled and leave.  You can sign-up for notifications and updates via Remind by texting "@eels26" to 81010.

Q: Will there be a morning practice after a late night meet?

A: We do a “fun swim” with donuts and juice, where all swimmers receive their earned ribbons following a swim meet.  This is usually 9:30am-10:30am.

Q: Is it OK to miss a practice?

A: Yes indeed! Our coaches are fully aware of obligations during the summer. You do not need to report if you are going to miss an occasional practice. We do ask that you tell the Coach if you are going to be out an extensive time, and if you will not be available for an upcoming meet.

Q: Who decides what events my child swims at a meet?

A: The Coach. Parents need to respect the Coach’s meet event entries. Please do not ask for changes to the meet entries at the meet. This disrupts the meet and causes confusion for everyone.

Q: Do I need to stay during a practice?

A: Once your child is proficient in swimming, you may feel comfortable leaving to take a walk or run an errand. It is up to you.

Q: Is there practice in the rain?

A: Yes, provided it is not thundering and lightning.
