Volunteer Job Descriptions
A HUGE thanks in advance to all the parents for working the meets. It takes many people to fill all the positions at both home and away meets. Without you, our parents, we could not run a successful meet. Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
ARRIVAL TIMES FOR VOLUNTEERS:
- Set-Up Volunteers: 3:30 PM (Home meets only).
- Volunteer Check-in: 4:45pm
- Concession Volunteers: 5:00 PM (Home meets only).
- Timers and Back up Timers: 5:30 PM (need to be present for meeting with Head Official at both home and away meets).
- BullPen and Staging Volunteers: 5:45 PM (needs to start setting up swimmers for the first event to start right at 6 PM).
- All other first shift volunteers should report to the pool by 5:50PM.
- Second shift Volunteers: Please listen to announcement from the PA System as to when to report to your job. Usually around events 32-34.

Bullpen |
Use the heat sheet to call for swimmers and line them up on the benches in order of their event, heat and lane assignment. Along with Staging, they make sure each swimmer is in the right lane for the right heat for the right event. Also, they ensure the staging (at least 3 heats) is prepared prior to each race. |

Clean-up |
Home meets ONLY. After last event you will put the pool deck back to its typical arrangement. Put away lights and equipment, restore deck furniture placement. Empty all trash cans, return all flags, banners, etc. back to the storage area. Place all bullpen and staging seats away. |

Concessions |
Set up and run the concession stand during the home meets. |

Ribbons |
For home and away meets, this individual takes the printed labels/results from the computer operator and affixes them to the appropriate ribbon. Each team is responsible for their ribbon management. After ribbons are ready, each ribbon is placed in the folder/box for each family. |

Runner |
The Runner is responsible for picking up the recorded times from the Timers and delivering them to the scoring table via the bucket hanging from the clubhouse window. |

Scoring |
Workers sit at the scoring table. At a Home meet, they prepare the timer sheets for input and at Away meet; they verify the input into the computer. Brief training is required and can be individually arranged. |

Set-up |
Meet at the pool at 3:30 pm for home meets only to rearrange the pool deck for the swim meet. Check bathrooms, hang up flags and banner, set out blocks, arrange bullpen and staging areas, set out parking signs; anything needed to prepare the pool for the meet. You are finished before the meet begins. **More info below |

Staging |
Lead the swimmers from the bullpen area to the area behind the starting blocks keeping them in lane order. Along with Bullpen, they make sure each swimmer is in the right lane for the right heat for the right event. Also, they ensure the staging (at least 3 heats) is prepared prior to each race. |

Starter |
The Starter begins each event by notifying swimmers of the distance and the event followed by initiating the start signal; calls false starts when necessary. Must be trained. |

Stroke & turn Judge |
The trained (and county certified) volunteer parent who watch the swimmers during their races and determine that the starts, strokes, and turns are performed properly. A swimmer who does not meet the established requirements will be “DQ’d” or disqualified. |

Timer |
Timers are responsible for taking the time of a swimmer or relay team in one lane on a stopwatch. Timers will record the times taken and will have a time sheet ready for the Runner. Each team is responsible for providing one Timer per lane, plus one backup Timer for each half of each meet. You will be supplied with a stop watch. |
